Daniel Prinz. Pianist

LIED. CHAMBER MUSIC. SOLO

Daniel Prinz at the piano brought these sometimes very sombre songs to life with impressive playing, creating a performance of great impact."

BIOGRAPHY

The quiet, intimate tones in which the profound and honest moments of the human experience are reflected fascinated Daniel Prinz from an early age. During his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock, it became a strong desire for him to find the human voice within the piano. This fascination led him to establish an intensive connection with lieder early in his bachelor's studies, which today represents one of the most important pillars of his musical work. Together with baritone Lars Conrad, he was accepted into the concert promotion program of the German Music Competition in 2022. In 2023, he reached the final of the International Schubert Competition in Dortmund, which also marked his debut at the Konzerthaus Dortmund. Currently, the young Lied Duo is planning to release their first album, Männer zwischen Rausch und Verzweiflung, with the label GENUIN in the summer of 2025.

Born in Arnsberg, Daniel Prinz studied solo piano under Matthias Kirschnereit, Bernd Zack, Lilit Grigoryan, and Noelia Rodiles in Rostock and Zaragoza. He completed his Master's degree in Lied in the summer semester 2025 at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, studying with Wolfram Rieger. In the winter semester 2025/2026, he will begin his Konzertexamen as a Lied Duo with Lars Conrad at the same institution. He has also received important musical impulses from Maria João Pires, Gerold Huber, Julius Drake, and Brigitte Fassbaender.

His refined playing, which also embraces drama and wildness, has made him a sought-after partner for Lied and chamber music, including at festivals such as the Gezeitenkonzerte, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the International Festival of Ostracized Music in Schwerin, and the Hidalgo Festival. He has made radio recordings for NDR, ORF, and Deutschlandfunk.

In addition, he is a multiple prizewinner in national and international competitions as both a soloist and collaborative partner. Since 2023, he has been supported by Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now e.V. Berlin. He was also a scholarship holder at the Liedakademie LIEDBasel (2024), Leeds Lieder Young Artist Programme (2025) and the exzellenz labor lied (2025). Besides his fondness for the music of Schubert, Schumann, Shostakovich, and Brahms, he is particularly dedicated to composers who were banned, persecuted, and killed during the Nazi era.

SOLO

In his solo programs, Daniel Prinz often focuses on one or two composers and lets their works engage in a musical dialogue. Throughout the evening, he also guides the audience, placing great importance on conveying the composers' biographies, the musical language of the pieces, as well as spontaneous personal thoughts.

Moderation is an important aspect for him, as it fosters an open connection between the music, the performer, and the audience. Daniel Prinz is also happy to incorporate the wishes and suggestions of organizers to create programs that are both individually tailored and particularly engaging.

ENSEMBLES

Liedduo
Conrad/Prinz

The two musicians came together through a happy coincidence during an audition and began their joint ensemble work as fellows of the Konzertförderung Deutscher Musikwettbewerb. Individually, both musicians from Westphalia have already been recognized in national and international competitions. In their programs, they enjoy being guided by overarching themes, whether historical, sociological, or psychological. They are united by the belief that song, as a medium, consistently addresses current issues of the individual and society across time. Centuries-old texts can serve as mirrors, encouraging us to reflect. Vulnerability and sensitivity play a significant role for both musicians, which is reflected in their multifaceted interpretations.

Bovary
Trio

Lauriane Maudry, Michaela Špačková, and Daniel Prinz met in 2022 as fellows of the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb and have since formed the 'Bovary Trio.' Named after the novel by Gustave Flaubert, who caused outrage and uproar with the publication of his book in 1856 and was even prosecuted by the censorship authority for 'violating public morals,' the ensemble aims to explore new paths in piano trio literature and passionately highlight the poetic and lyrical aspects of chamber music. The combination of bassoon, clarinet, and piano is so unusual that there is hardly any original repertoire for it, which is why they dedicate themselves to their own arrangements of works by composers such as Clara Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Dmitri Shostakovich. As a trio, it is their deep desire to convey music through educational projects and concerts during their concert tours, also reaching schools, nursing homes, and other social institutions.
